Thoughts To Build On
Buddha taught, “All that we are is the result of what we have thought.” Thoughts are things. They are the building blocks of your life. Everything that happened in your life started as a thought form. Your thoughts are the mental blueprint of your life.
To have a life filled with joy and happiness, think joyful and happy thoughts. To have a successful life, think success. “The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts, therefore guard accordingly; and take care that you entertain no notions unsuitable to virtue and reasonable nature.” Marcus Aurelius Antoninus.
Since your thoughts control the direction of your life, think positive thoughts. Think pleasant thoughts. Positive thoughts yield positive results. To improve the quality of your life, improve the quality of your thoughts. These are some of the ways to improve the quality your thoughts:
- Avoid all activities that contribute to negative thinking like; watching the news, gossiping, indulging in alcohol, etc.
- Think thoughts that make you happy. When you think of your past, focus only on the good memories. When you think of your future, focus only on your heart’s desire. Do not worry about your future, concentrate only on what you desire.
- When you find yourself thinking negative thoughts, immediately switch your focus on to something pleasant. You can watch a funny movie, play with your dog, listen to the music, etc. This will help you to instantly shift your attention onto something positive.
- Surround yourself with people who are positive, kind and generous. Avoid people and circumstances that upset you.
- Expose yourself to good and inspiring books and programs. Exposing your mind to all the brilliant thoughts is a great way to empower your own thinking.
- Be of service to those less fortunate. Do volunteer work. A study in Tecumseh, Michigan, showed that “Men who did no volunteer work were two and a half times as likely to die during the study as men who volunteered a least once a week” Service to others not only make you feel good , but increases life expectancy.
- Meditation helps to quiet your mind and your negative thoughts.
- Count your blessings. As you wake up in the morning, be thankful that you are alive and ready to begin a new day. As you lie in bed at night, be thankful that you have made it through the day and list all the things that you have to be thankful for.
- Laugh and make other people laugh. In the book, Anatomy of an Illness, Norman Cousins told of how he cured himself by using visualization, love of his family, and laughter. He was diagnosed with a terminal illness and given six months to live. He decided to experiment to see if he could cure his illness by using positive thinking. He decided that laughter was one of the most positive activities he knew. He exposed himself to funny movies and funny stories. He discovered that laughter healed his pain. He fully recovered from his illness.
- Choose to love yourself and others. Loving feels great. Choose loving thoughts and act in a loving manner.
Since you will become what you think, think good thoughts, think happy thoughts, think positive thoughts and think success.
“The mind of man is capable of anything—because everything is in it, all the past as well as all the future.” Joseph Conrad
