Simple Abundance A Daybook of Comfort of Joy

Simple Abundance A Daybook of Comfort of Joy

This book features 366 essays penned from a woman’s perspective. Sample topics include gratitude, harmony, self-nurturing, positive body image, the importance of scented linen closets, and many others. Each essay sports a pithy quote from (surprise!) the likes of Kahlil Gibran. Viewed uncritically, it’s hard to argue with Simple Abundance’s earnest admonitions to appreciate life, in all its messy imperfect excellence. And the fact that serenity and happiness are each in dreadfully short supply can excuse some of the treacly writing. But Breathnach sometimes lapses into what can only be described as her “Martha Stewart on Prozac” voice, and the results are aggravating to the extreme: “If you’ve been hesitant to strike up a reciprocal relationship with your guardian angel, don’t be.” Fans of guardian angels will greet these feel-good essays every morning with the rising sun, a cup of mint tea, and a bluebird chirping on the windowsill, and be happy. Skeptics will prefer their coffee very black.

5 Stars Brought me out a dark place in my life
This book was given to me by a friend when I was going through a really rough time. It really helped me to gain perspctive on my life. It made a big difference in my relationships, my attitude..even my body. Since I wasn’t moping around so much and was getting out and enjoying life more, I actually dropped a few pounds and toned up and felt great. It was very helpful for me and I am going to read it again this year as I prepare to have a baby. I think it’s a perfect time to get my head straight again:)

5 Stars Simple Abundance
In great condition – Like NEW; This is a great book for women at any age….

5 Stars This book helps readers break out of the box!
Simple Abundance nurtures and inspires us to dream and to create. I first read this book several years ago. While reading books is often entertaining or educational, reading this book was almost a life experience. Sarah Ban Breathnach encourages and invites us to step outside ourselves, explore, and break old routines.

I love that the book is divided into daily meditations. It makes change more manageable for busy people! I appreciate all of the resources that I could follow for additional information on topics that interested me. This book is unique. If you are thinking about getting it, I say “Go for it! This is one you’ll want to own so you can revisit it.”

1 Star “Simple” being the operative word…
If you’re a bored housewife in need of some middlebrow hobbies that do not involve interacting with reality, get this book. I read it after finding it in a dollar bin, and as it turned out it was there for a reason. The book is supposed to be about finding your authentic self – whatever that is – and after reading just a few pages I began to feel sorry for any woman who actually felt this book spoke to her. Nowhere does it recommend donating to charity, being a comforter to someone in need or doing anything truly altruistic, but inevitably it all comes back to sachets and “Sleepless in Seattle”. Redecorating schemes, flower arranging, tea and other meaningless domestic tips keep rearing their ugly little heads, but never does Breathnach seem to think that her readers might actually want to change their lives for the better in some greater way. Going back to school, finding a new job or finding new things to do as a couple/family never enters her mind, and recommending learning a sport would be unthinkable! Virtually everything is a solitary, mindless indulgence that never challenges the reader and gives you absolutely no way to grow. You’ll never feel better about yourself by having an old movie night or making paper dolls, but clearly Breathnach never intends for her audience to challenge their worldviews or truly change their lives. If they did, they would be far too smart to buy into this drivel.

But if you’re into giving your room an annoyingly patriotic or nautical theme (driftwood as decoration!), then pick up this book!

5 Stars You Can Find Peace Here
This is the 2nd copy for me. I bought one for myself and one for a friend. I love the quotes and poems for meditation, and the inspiration it gives to women. It is a book to be read daily and offers suggestions on just about everything in our lives from personal development to gardening. If you are looking for peace of mind, and a positive voice, you will find it in this beautiful, classic, self-help book.
